Good Neighbors: PCS and Antonelli Pond
by Land Trust Santa Cruz
on May 26, 2017

The Land Trust has owned and cared for Antonelli Pond since 1983 – and it has never looked better than it does today thanks to an infusion of neighborly volunteer help from the volunteers at Pacific Colligate School (PCS) – and some dedicated neighbors.

In the past year, 15 parents from PCS routinely walked the property, doing light maintenance and reporting conditions to our Access Coordinator, Ginger Wojciechowski through an online smartphone form. Ginger says the reports enabled her to track conditions at the pond and respond quickly to situations that warrant it, like vandalism.

Ginger and her assistant Angie were at the pond 2-3 times per week, but someone was looking out for the place 5-7 times a week, which is a lot of eyes. Keeping a defacto public park clean and safe requires a lot of work, and the PCS volunteers have been a big help.

This coming year we hope more PCS parents and neighbors will join our pond volunteer team. This year’s crew has shown us the way and set the example.

If you’re interested in helping out, contact our Access Coordinator.
